Abstract

The Texas Legislature passed the Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA) in 1973. Section 17.50 was entitled "Relief for Consumers." This section was amended in 1977, 1979, and 1989.

In 1995, the Texas Legislature considered several tort reform measures designed to limit plaintiff actions. Among those was H.B. 668 and its companion bill S.B. 26, relating to DTPA.
